Version 12.11
📅 Updated April 5, 2022
Filters blue light from your screen, reduces eye strain and helps you sleep
Features Twilight: Blue light filter
Are you having trouble falling asleep?
Are your kids hyperactive when playing with the tablet before bed time? Are you using your smart phone or tablet in the late evening?
Twilight may be a solution for you!Recent research suggests that exposure to blue light before sleep may distort your natural (circadian) rhythm and cause inability to fall asleep. The cause is the photoreceptor in your eyes, called Melanopsin.
This receptor is sensitive to a narrow band of blue light in the 460-480nm range which may suppress Melatonin production - a hormone responsible for your healthy sleep-wake cycles. In experimental scientific studies it has been shown an average person reading on a tablet or smart phone for a couple of hours before bed time may find their sleep delayed by about an hour.
See references below..The Twilight app makes your device screen adapt to the time of the day.
It filters the flux of blue light emitted by your phone or tablet after sunset and protects your eyes with a soft and pleasant red filter.
The filter intensity is smoothly adjusted to the sun cycle based on your local sunset and sunrise times.Documentationhttp://twilight.urbandroid.org/doc/Get more from Twilight1) Bed reading: Twilight is more pleasant on the eyes for night reading.
Especially as it is able to lower the screen backlight far below the ability of the backligt controls on your screen2) AMOLED screens: We have tested Twilight on an AMOLED screen for 5 years without any sign of depletion or over-burning.
If properly configured Twilight causes less light emission (by enabling dimming) with more equal light distribution (dark areas of the screen such as the status bar get tinted).
This may in fact increase your AMOLED screen life time.Basics on circadian rhythm and the role of melatoninhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melatoninhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanopsinhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circadian_rhythmshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circadian_rhythm_disorderPermissions- location - to find out your current sunset/surise times- running apps - to stop Twilight in selected apps- write settings - to set back-light- network - access smartlight (Philips HUE) to shield you household light from blueAccessibility ServiceIn order to filter also your notifications and lock screen the app may ask for enabling Twilight Accessibility Service.

What Our Users Say
Don't just take our word for it. Here's what our users have to say about our Android app.
"Works really well - easily personalized and allows other apps to work at the same time with no issues"

"Works well"
Mark Svihel
"I've used and loved this app on my phones for years. No ads, customizable and totally free. Also it runs in the background with no annoying bars or icons on your screen. Just the best. Thank you to the developers for a truly great app!"
Tanya M
"it might take a few tries to get the settings and permissions where you want them but it's a great app that does what it says on the tin and does very well on chrome os as well as android."
Chromebook
"I guess it is great for what it is SUPPOSED to do. However, what I'm not happy with is, even when it's pause or during the day time it will either lower my media volume randomly 1/3 - 1/4 of the max volume, OR it will make my max volume very quiet even though it is all the way up. Thinking about Uninstalling."
Raven Serpent
"Messes with the interaction of the Play Store buttons. Realme X2, Android 11. This is still an issue..."
Costea Alex
"This app is fantastic, it is very customisable allowing you to change the colour temperature from the Relaxing profile mode (1000k - 3500k) or to the Energizing profile mode (3501k - 5000k), you can control the intensity of the colour temperature and how dim you want the screen. Personally I find no reason to change to the Energizing profile mode as the Relaxing profile mode helps with sleep and I don't need help with staying awake."
April Walford
"Difficult to operate. Not recommendable."
Tusshaa Gun Pill
"Allows for a high degree of dimming & the color is customizable. I rely on this app nightly and am thankful for it. Update: couple years later and I still love it."
Alicia Wright
"Perfect"
